Predicting the energy consumption of heated plastic greenhouses in south-eastern Spain

چکیده
Measurements of heat consumption in a parral type greenhouse, equipped with an air-heating system, were carried out in south-eastern Spain (Almería) during the 1998/99 winter. From the daily values of heat consumption (Qd, MJ m d) recorded in five identical greenhouses heated to different night temperature set-points (Tc), and data of minimum outside air temperature (Te,min), relationships between Qd and the temperature difference (∆Tmin = Tc – Te,min) were established. Linear regressions between Qd and ∆Tmin gave satisfactory fits (R ranging from 0.75 to 0.83), considering that Te,min was the only input data for the model. When all data were pooled, the correlation was curvilinear, the best fit to a 2 order polynomial being Qd = 0.049 ∆Tmin – 0.001 ∆Tmin + 1.107 (R = 0.89). Validation of this model was performed using data obtained during other years, giving a fair agreement at the daily (R = 0.86), 10-day (R = 0.95) and yearly (R = 0.99) time scales. This simple model could be of interest to growers for decision-making related to the choice of set-point temperature and crop planning in heated greenhouses. Additional key words: air heating, energy use model, Phaseolus vulgaris, temperature.

Comparison of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission footprint caused by agricultural products in greenhouses and open field in Iran
Decisions can be taken to increase energy efficiency and to mitigate the emissions to the environment by examining the energy audit and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions footprint of crop production in different ways and in different regions, with comparable principles. In this study, energy consumption and energy indices of tomatoes production in four regions of Iran including East Azerbaijan...

Replacing fossil flues by renewable and sustainable energies have been the concern of scientists working in this area over the recent decades. Furthermore, greenhouses play a key role in producing various crops year-round and in bohemian climates. For this objective, the greenhouses employ heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to provide the favourable conditions for the cons...

A comprehensive survey of the occurrence and fate of pesticides and organic contaminants in soils from an intensive agricultural area devoted to horticultural production in plastic-based greenhouses has been performed to determine if the operation under integrated pest management practices has contributed to reduce the levels of these compounds. Almería province (south-eastern Spain) was select...

This paper applied a non-parametric (Data Envelopment Analysis) method to analyze the efficiency of farmers, discriminate efficient farmers from inefficient ones and to identify wasteful uses of energy in order to optimize the energy inputs for greenhouse cucumber production in Lorestan province of Iran. Data were collected from 27 cucumber producers by using a face-to-face questionnaire.DEA cr...
